This is a patch for the game "Turok 2: Seed of Evil". It fixes CD music playback under Windows XP and later.
It also makes the game run on a single core to fix texture glitches, invisible enemies and crashes
on modern multi-processor systems.

Latest version is always available at:
http://ctpax-cheater.losthost.org/htmldocs/turok.htm#turok_patch

(note that the history for the version 1.x is available in the archive of the older version of the patch)

Files in the original archive:
Video_MM.asm - patch source code (FASM).
Video_MM.dll - patch file.
ReadMeEn.txt - this file.
ReadMeRu.txt - Russian version of this file.

I. How to use the patch
Just unpack and place the file "Video_MM.dll" in the same folder with the game executable file (Turok2*.exe).
Run the game and everything should be fine. If not - read the next chapter.
This patch was tested on:
- Windows XP
- Windows 7
- Windows 8.1
So it should work under any other version of Windows too, but if not - feel free to contact me via e-mail.

II. Troubleshooting

1. First of all - do not install this game (or any other old games) to "Program Files" or
"Program Files (x86)" folders, because Windows Vista and later restricts write access there
and won't allow you to install patches or make any changes, like storing saved
games or game configuration files. It's a good idea to create "C:\Games\" or "D:\Games\"
or whatever and install any old games there.

2. If your Windows version is older than Vista (Windows XP/200x) and you still can't hear
the music with the patch - make sure you have selected
"Enable digital CD-ROM audio for this CD-ROM device"
option for your CD/DVD device with the game CD:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc958214.aspx#XSLTsection123121120120

3. To play the music in the game you'll need the game CD or a game CD-image copy with
audio CD tracks included. Also note that with some nocd patches you probably won't
get music at all, because they skip audio CD initialization code entirely.
You can get proper nocd patch at the www.CTPAX-X.org but it will only work with bundled
English version of the game (unprotected file "Turok2.exe", Turok build: Jan 16 1999 16:59:50).
Note that the nocd is NOT required to play the music in the game.

4. Also do not rename "Video_MM.dll" file or it won't work.

5. Some game versions are protected with SecuROM and packed on top of that with Petite.
These versions will not work under Windows x64 systems and may not work under any
Windows since Vista. If you have an English version of the game - you must use a clean
unprotected executable:
http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_turok_2.shtml#Turok%202%20Unprotected%20US%20Executable
That should be the same "Turok2.exe" version (Turok build: Jan 16 1999 16:59:50) as the protected one.
German "Turok2German.exe" version (censored) should be unprotected (Turok build: Feb 2 1999 10:02:24).
Also there are later builds of the game (with a lot of changes in the executables and resource files),
which can be found with magazine PC Generation 4 #139 (Reference CD: 0811). You can download it here:
http://www.abandonware-magazines.org/download.php?num=3620
Click on "Cliquer ici pour demarrer le telechargement" to start downloading (warning: 1.4 Gb).
Game CD image files are located here (path in the archive):
generation4_numerocd139.zip:/generation4_numerocd139/Gen 4 n139 cd1/
This version contains four clean unprotected executables for each language:
"Turok2English.exe" (Turok Build: Feb 2 1999 10:19:32)
"Turok2French.exe" (Turok Build: Feb 2 1999 11:47:01)
"Turok2Italian.exe" (Turok Build: Feb 2 1999 11:50:48)
"Turok2Spanish.exe" (Turok Build: Feb 2 1999 11:55:29)
If you have any other version of the game - feel free to contact me via e-mail.
You can know your game build by running Turok 2 executable with the "-version" command line key:
Turok2.exe -version

6. Please note that in Windows Vista and later sound system was broken and because of that music
may be too loud but music volume settings in the game will change overall sound volume, not only music.
This can't be fixed and only way to do it properly - manually extracting and playing audio data from
the game CD disk itself. Sorry, but it's a lot of work to do.
